WINTER WORKSHOPS: Alnmouth WI had a slight change of format for our November meeting as we began by making our way to various workshops scattered around the room where co-opted members were waiting, surrounded by tools of their trade.
There were seven in all, from Christmas flower arranging, beautiful Christmas material tree decorations, hand-stitched mice, cards, little boxes, home-made rum chocolate truffles and a taste of what the worldwide web has to offer.
In no time at all it was a hub of activity and while some of us were not quite as skilled as others in our chosen workshops it didn’t matter as we all got there in the end and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.
A much-needed cup of tea was then served together with delicious tray bakes and, after comparing our efforts and a good chat, Pam rang her bell very rigorously and continued with the rest of the meeting.
The minutes were made available if anyone wished to see them and various matters were discussed, including congratulating our quiz and Scrabble teams for bringing the Hotspur Challenge Cup to Alnmouth from the Hotspur group meeting and also delightedly winning the competition on the same night, receiving another cup for the evening bag submitted by our WI, courtesy of one of our members.
We were also reminded of our forthcoming Christmas party on December 5, starting at 7.30pm, and the carol service at Hexham Abbey on December 15.
Pam directed members to our notice board for further up and coming events. She also rallied the troops for help at our winter warmer soup and pudding lunch which will be on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 from noon to 2pm in the Hindmarsh Hall.
The birthday girl drawn out of the hat for November was Yvonne Farmer and our evening closed, most of us going home with something to show for all our hard work.
A very peaceful and happy Christmas to all.
