Alnwick’s new Aldi store is opening next week – and customers have the chance to win a host of goodies as part of a special golden ticket initiative.

Meanwhile, the Golden Arches have gone up as progress is being made at the town’s McDonald’s drive-thru restaurant, which is set to launch on Wednesday, September 23.

Mayor of Alnwick, Coun Bill Grisdale, will officially open the Aldi store, on South Road, at 8am on Thursday.

To celebrate, the shop will be handing out golden tickets to the first 100 people in the queue at the store.

Lucky customers could be in with a chance of winning a 42-inch full HD LED TV, a 10.1-inch tablet, 11.6-inch notebook, 4.5-inch smartphone, bottles of 24-year-old single-malt whisky, and a variety of other Aldi goodies, including bags of shopping.

The store is supported by more than 100 car-parking spaces and has created 25 new jobs for the local community.

The shop is currently recruiting for a range of positions and candidates can find out more information on all store roles and apply at www.aldirecruitment.co.uk

Aldi sausage and bacon sandwiches will be offered to customers, free of charge, in the queue on the morning of the opening and customers will be able to enjoy a variety of food sampling throughout the day.

Aldi’s Specialbuys are available every Thursday and Sunday, while there will be a range of opening-week offers.

Aldi store manager, Kyle Davis, said: “The team and I are looking forward to welcoming customers into the store.

“We want the new store to make a positive impact to the people of Alnwick and we hope that customers enjoy the greater shopping choice that the store will bring. We are also still recruiting for staff, so if anyone would like to apply, we would encourage them to visit our recruitment website.”

To coincide with the store opening, Aldi will be making a donation to the Gallery Youth Project to support its activities for young people in and around Alnwick.

The supermarket also sponsored the event programme of the Alnwick International Music Festival, which was staged at the start of August.

Meanwhile, building work at McDonald’s is in full swing.

The restaurant will create at least 80 jobs and the fast-food giant says that recruitment is ongoing.

A company spokesman said that McDonald’s is excited about opening the restaurant in the town.
