Not everyone can combine work with a hobby. But that's exactly what Alan Chapman has done since launching his wedding photography business.

The married father-of-two from Alnwick developed his passion for the camera when he was a child and has spent the years since perfecting the art at his leisure.

But it wasn’t until recently that the 58-year-old decided to turn his love for the lens into a full-time career.

Following positive feedback from shots he had taken at the weddings of family and friends, he took the plunge and started his own business, Captured Moments Wedding Photography.

It was certainly a change of direction for the grandfather-of-three, stepping down from his job as retail manager at Pure Fishing, in Alnwick.

But since launching the venture earlier this year, word of Alan’s work is spreading, bookings are coming in and couples are falling in love with his images.

Alan said: “I enjoyed Pure Fishing, but the time was right to go in this direction; it was now or never really.

“My interest in photography came from my father. I enjoy taking pictures of people; they are my favourite focus when capturing moments on my camera.

“I enjoy capturing those spontaneous or special moments and all the emotion that goes with it, so doing weddings is perfect.

“I’ve had some very good comments from people and I feel privileged when people ask me to do their wedding.”

Alan covers Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, County Durham and the Scottish Border and he prides himself on a ‘quality product and value for money’.

He said: “My style of photography is light and unobtrusive for the candid shots, but I also want couples to have those extra special pictures for their album or wall and that’s where I take pride in setting the scene for those moments.”

Alan likes to meet couples before the big day; to get to know them, run through ideas and pass on posing techniques. His clients have full rights to the images and the photographs come on a USB stick in a presentation box.
