A new conference to celebrate the positive contribution older people make to their community will be held in Northumberland this month.
The Ageing Well Conference will be held on Thursday, February 18, from 9.30am to 4pm, at the Northumberland Church of England Academy in Ashington and will feature a range of speakers and workshops, the extra smile awards and a marketplace showcasing information from organisations and charities.
Keynote speakers include Brian Burnie, from Daft as a Brush, and presentations from Newcastle University’s Centre for Ageing and Vitality, the Shared Purpose project for improving dignity in hospitals and local Ageing Well volunteering and intergenerational projects.
To book a place, email Lorraine.email@example.com or call 01670 629135.
The conference is open to older people and professionals who work with them and is organised by Northumberland County Council, Northumbria Healthcare and Northumberland Age UK. Lunch and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.
Coun Susan Dungworth, cabinet member for adult care and public health at Northumberland County Council, said: “I would encourage all older residents and health professionals based in Northumberland who work with the elderly to attend this conference. “This is a unique opportunity for people with a diverse range of experience and skills in this area to come together and share best practice and learn about new developments in the field.”
