An exceptional meal was held at The Widdrington Arms on March 11 for the 91st birthday anniversary of Acklington WI.
The majority of members were able to attend so there was lots of chatting and giggling coming from the dining room.
The evening concluded with exchange of gifts with some very imaginative and beautifully wrapped presents. There was no business meeting this month.
The Institute’s Reading Aloud groups came through the heats at Brunton Park and now go in to the finals to be held at Stannington on May 16.
There was the three-person team consisting of Wilma Nicoll reading the poem set by the Federation (Letter in November by Sylvia Plath); Barbara King reading her own choice poem (Always Have Your Head In The Clouds by Margaret A Mattinson) and June Barras reciting a previously unseen piece from The Doll’s House by Katherine Mansfield and the Choral Group of the above three plus Moira Peden, Sylvia Linnett and Doreen Colbourne performing The Three Little Pigs by Roald Dahl. It was a great and delightful surprise to hear that both groups had made it to the final.
