A697 closed after lorry crash

The A697 has been closed in both directions after a lorry accident this afternoon.

At 3.30pm this afternoon, police were informed a lorry had come off the road on the A697 going towards Wooler.

Due to concerns over the load the lorry was carrying, the road is currently closed in both directions between junctions at Rothbury and the bridge at the River Aln.


Emergency services are in attendance and establishing to identify the load and whether or not it poses any risk.

The road is closed between New Moor House Crossroads and the Bridge of Aln.

Motorists travelling south are being advised to leave the road at the Bridge of Aln to the B6134, rejoining at Lemmington Crossroads.

Motorists travellling north are advised to leave at New Moor House Crossroads, travel along the B6134 and rejoin at the bridge of Aln.

Motorists travelling north may wish to stay on the A1.
