A weighty collection

Have your say

ALNWICK Area Friends of the Earth collected around 150lbs of rubbish in a street and path clean on Easter Saturday.

Eleven volunteers collected more than 10 per cent of their body weight in rubbish from Rugley Road, Summerseats and paths around the edge of the golf course.

Rachael Roberts, town councillor and a group member, said: “We found that litter was one of the top environmental issues in the consultation around the neighbourhood plan. We’ve been impressed to find how many people are prepared to join in.”

Group co-ordinator David Farrar said: “Among the discoveries were a spare wheel, a director’s chair and a microwave oven.

“Police are looking for an action movie director living off ready meals.”
