THE Gazette’s Twitter account has reached a huge milestone - more than 1,000 people now follow us.
And thanks to those followers we have managed to gain numerous stories through the powers of social media.
Our followers increase on a weekly basis, not because we ask for more, but because we constantly interact through the medium.
We have held guess the picture location competitions through Twitter, as well as retweeting competitions and plan to do more of the same in the future.
Paul Larkin, editor of the Northumberland Gazette, said: “Twitter has helped to widen our net in terms of readership. A lot of people now turn to the internet for their news and by interacting with them we are able to get more followers, and ultimately more readers, not just from Northumberland but all over the world.”
The rise of Twitter and Facebook help the press in securing stories, and also in putting the correct information out into the online world – sometimes dispelling rumours which have been broadcast.
We will continue to use both mediums to make contact with our readers and to keep you up to date with all the news in north Northumberland.
