A north Northumberland-based canoe club has undergone a makeover, thanks to a donation of paint and equipment.
Members of Coquet Canoe Club in Amble rolled up their sleeves earlier this month to revamp the ageing exterior of the organisation’s wooden clubhouse and repaint its peeling front gate.
The organisation, which provides affordable canoeing lessons for local children and adults, benefited from a donation as part of Dulux Decorator Centres’ Colouring the Community scheme.
The initiative aims to help local community groups and charities restore their premises and surrounding areas.
A team of volunteers from the Coquet Street-based club used brushes, rollers, a special preservative wood treatment and Dulux Trade paint in a selection of bright colours to refresh the premises and prevent the wooden walls from drying out.
The paint, materials and equipment were donated by Dulux Decorator Centres, on Brough Park Way, in Newcastle,
Club member Linda Pooley, was delighted with the results.
She said: “We are extremely grateful to Dulux Decorator Centres for the generous paint donation, which has enabled us to tidy up our buildings.
“We hope that our new-look premises will encourage even more local residents to come along to the club and try canoeing.”
Sean McIntyre, manager of Newcastle-based Dulux Decorator Centres, paid tribute to the efforts of the volunteers and was pleased that the donation had helped the club.
He said: “The volunteers have done a wonderful job revamping the clubhouse and the premises now look better than ever and I am sure that the club’s members, new and old, will approve of the makeover.”
