ALNWICK will see the start of the festive season earlier than normal this year, when a sea of Santas spread Christmas spirit in May in the name of charity.
With the Santa Saunter 2010 cancelled due to the heavy snow and ice which hit the area at the end of last year, the Gazette has decided to re-organise the event, with a special twist.
Organised by the Northumberland Gazette, the Santa Saunter 2010 Revisited will take place on Sunday, May 22, giving those taking part a chance to limber up for summer and start the Christmas season early.
The five-mile walk, in aid of Grace House North East Children’s Hospice Appeal and HospiceCare North Northumberland will start in Alnwick’s Market Place and take a route around the town and its outskirts.
There will be pitstops along the way to refuel the Santas and the walk is open to those on four legs as well as too.
A special canine competition will be held with a prize for the best-dressed dog.
And there will be spot prizes for participants as well.
Gazette editor Paul Larkin said: “Back by popular demand the Santa Saunter is a great day out and fun for all the family.
“Hopefully the weather will be on our side this time and we can raise money for these worthy causes.”
To take part in the event, pick up an entry form from the Gazette office at 32 Bondgate Without, Alnwick, and send it back to us.
