A NORTH Northumberland village church played host to a national radio show last month.

The community in Crookham is extremely grateful to the Crookham Gardeners’ Club for inviting BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time to Crookham United Reformed Church.

With the programme having been recorded at the URC, it was a good opportunity to ask the panel about appropriate plants for the planned peace garden around the church building to mark the 500th anniversary commemorations of the Battle of Flodden in 2013.

The panel’s suggestions for planting included peace lily, pulsatilla vulgaris, friendship plant or billbergia nutans, handkerchief tree or davidia involucrate, hydrangea Love me kiss, hairbells, and Scottish bluebells.

“It was great fun to host the show,” said Rev Dave Herbert.

The church grounds are awaiting their own transformation later this year.
