A new-age show full of age-old acts

Northumberland Village Varieties, a cabaret-style show that promises to be like nothing north Northumberland has seen before, takes place tomorrow night.

Warkworth Memorial Hall will host the showcase, which runs from 7pm to 11pm and will feature some of the North East’s finest talents with a few visiting acts too.

The show’s host and artistic director is Chris Cross, a magician, contortionist and escapologist from Newcastle, who has travelled the world performing his unique act in hundreds of cabarets and shows, from New York to New Zealand, Bahrain to Dubai, London to Paris and in between.

He says that the audience can expect daring acts of escapology, stand-up comedy, live music, cunning conjuring, circus stunts, music hall-esque madness and much more.

Others on the bill include Simon Donald, the co-founder and former co-editor of Viz and now a stand-up comedian, and musicians Bill Reid and Carl Cape, backed by a Lush Acoustic band.

Tickets, costing £6, are available from local shops or by emailing info@chris-cross.co.uk
