A-LEVEL RESULTS: James Calvert Spence College, Amble

Delighted Sixth Form students at Amble’s James Calvert Spence College have received their A-Level results, with many confirming their places at university after two years of hard work and dedication.

Executive Headteacher, Neil Rodgers, joined his students to learn their individual results and how these affected their dreams and aspirations for the future.

Mr Rodgers said: “A-Level results day is such an important day for our students and a day which can literally determine the rest of their lives.

“It’s sometimes a day of tears, both joy and sadness, but overall we’re celebrating a wonderful year for A-Level with 64.1 per cent awarded A*, A, or equivalent and 66.7 per cent of grades A* to B, or equivalent. We have had a 100 per cent pass rate overall.

“There are too many fantastic individual success stories to report them all, but this year’s highlights include, Jacob Bumbieris gaining a place at Newcastle studying chemical engineering and Matthew Coulter studying maths at Nottingham. In fact, 46 per cent of our students are bound for university.”

Matthew Coulter, who secured an A in maths and physics and a B in chemistry, said he was chilled and happy with his results and he was excited to be going to university.

Rachel Mounsey was so delighted she cried tears of joy after achieving a Distinction Star in fashion, Bs in geography and creative writing and a C in DT. She has secured her place at Northumbria University where she will study 3D design.

She said: “Miss Brown is the best Head of Sixth Form. I really pulled my grades round from last year, especially in geography, from a D to a B, and that’s thanks to Mr Frater. I’m really happy with my results.”

Dan Cook was celebrating after he earned the grades he needed to gain his place at Newcastle University studying bio-chemistry. Achieving three Bs in maths, chemistry and biology, he said: “I’m so relieved and happy. I was a little nervous this morning but overall I’m happy.”

Jacob Bumbieris also gained a place at Newcastle University, where he will study chemical engineering, after achieving two A grades in physics and maths and a B grade in chemistry. He said: “I’m relieved but happy. I’m probably more relieved after all the stress, but I am very happy.”

Carly Jones was also feeling relieved after achieving three Distinction Stars in fashion, business studies and ICT. She has sealed her spot at Northumbria University and will study fashion design marketing. She said: “I feel very good and accomplished.”

Jack Southward said he was absolutely relieved after achieving a Distinction Star in ICT, a B in physics and a C in chemistry and maths, which saw him secure his place in the Royal Air Force.

Mr Rodgers added: “At JCSC, we are very ambitious for all our students, whatever their starting points, and we are all immensely proud of their successes this year.

“But education isn’t all about exam success and we’re delighted for all our students who may or may not have achieved the grades they wanted and are now going on to adult life. This year has been a pleasure to teach and we wish them all well.”

The school is holding a number of open events on Thursday, September 29. These will take place at Acklington C of E First School (Reception to Year 4), 1pm to 3pm; at JCSC South Avenue, Amble (Year 5 to 8), and at JCSC Acklington Road, Amble (Year 9 to 11), both 4pm to 7pm.
