A PUBLIC inquiry into the plans to build a wind farm near Ellingham is likely to be held in September.
Berwick Borough Council refused permission for the 10-turbine development at Wandylaw in October last year.

Applicants RidgeWind appealed the decision which sparked a public inquiry.

Planning officers had recommended the bid be approved but councillors said it would have a detrimental effect on the landscape.

The Ministry of Defence had also lodged an 11th-hour objection.

Nigel Goodhew, one of the directors at RideWind, said the company had not received an official letter from the Planning Inspectorate confirming the date but understood it would be in September.

Objector Nick Blezard welcomed the date and said it should give sufficient time for the Middlemoor decision – adjacent to Wandylaw – to be annouced.

"I would find it difficult to understand if the Middlemoor decision is not released by then," he said.

The Middlemoor public inquiry for 18 turbines was held in October and November last year.

Borough council members were asked last week to allocate £100,000 to cover the authority's costs at the Wandylaw inquiry.
