A TEAM from the emergency services spent three hours searching for a walker who was lost in the Cheviot Hills, Northumberland, this afternoon (Sunday).
A two-man unit from the Northumberland National Park Search and Rescue Team, police and an ambulance crew were scrambled to Border Ridge after a call from a man who became lost as darkness fell.

He was found safe and well at about 8pm this evening after losing his bearings in the hills.

The man was an experienced walker and knew the area well. He had been out walking for the day and has all the right equipment for day walking in the winter but unfortunately he did not have a torch.

After realising he had lost his way he called for help and the team went out to find him.

Andrew Miller, area manager for Northmberland National Park said:"He was walking in one of the most difficult areas of the Cheviots and although the weather was reasonable it had become quite misty so he did the sensible thing and called us out."

The search and rescue team was mobilised at about 5pm today (Sunday) and was still looking for the man at 6pm.
