A FLORAL display to improve an entrance to Wooler has been vandalised three times.
Flowers in planters were put up on railings on both sides of The Peth around four weeks ago in a scheme initiated by traders.
But the blooms on the footpath side have been pulled out, scattered across the road and the boxes have been damaged.
The display has been restored after each incident but Wooler Parish Council admitted this week they were fighting a losing battle.
Coun Anthony Murray said: "The footpath side is just about wrecked. It is a pity as the other side of the road is beautiful.
"It is a great pity that they should win and we should lose. We could keep going if it were locals but I don't think it is."
Coun Rosanna Reed said: "It is such a shame because they're lovely and improves the entrance to Wooler."
Glendale Gateway Trust sourced the money for the display.
The boxes were dislodged before the flowers were planted and the parish council paid for the planters to be welded to the railings.
l More Wooler Parish Council news next week.
