POLICE have reported a relatively trouble-free bank holiday weekend.
Inspector Sue Peart said there were 12 arrests for public order offences and one at Glendale Show, near Wooler, on Monday.

Police horses were on patrol in Amble. Four directions to leave were issued and five incidents of alcohol seized across the area.

Insp Peart said: "Both at Glendale Show and over the bank holiday weekend we have had fewer incidents and arrests than previous years as a result of the positive action we have taken from the start of the summer – Operation Summer Holiday – and extra staff we had on duty over the bank holiday.

"It's been relatively trouble-free."

She said there had been a number of arrests as part of a crackdown on drink driving in the Rothbury, Wooler, Glanton and Whittingham areas and another two as part of the same operation in the Belford and Seahouses areas.
