ALNWICK'S Duchess's High School has been invited to take part in an educational visit to China.
The school is one of 12 which will be attending from around the region.
The schools have been invited by the Education Department in Hebei province, close to Beijing.
The eight-day trip will involve matching up to a school for the purpose of t
he exchange of ideas and teaching practices.
The longer term aim will be for student exchanges between the two schools.
Deputy head Steve Handley will be jetting off to China tomorrow, along with Pete Burrow, assistant director of sixth form.
Mr Handley said: "It is an exciting opportunity for us to develop a lasting partnership with a school from China.
"China is set to become the leading economic power in the world by the middle of the 21st century and we felt that we should make every effort to develop links for the benefit of young people in Hebei province and in Alnwick district."
The trip will be followed by a return visit to the North East by a Chinese delegation, likely to be in November.
The partner school from China will spend time at The Duchess's Community High and also spend some time experiencing the sights and culture of Alnwick district and the North East.
