MIDDLE schools in the Alnwick partnership have been awarded specialist school status.
The Duke's, Lindisfarne and Thomas Percy, all in Alnwick, Seahouses, and Glendale in Wooler, have all been given the award which recognises particular subject strengths.
It means the schools have succeeded in becoming joint specialist colleges with the Duchess's Community High School.
Headteachers and subject coordinators have worked closely together on this joint bid, with the aim of raising standards across all the schools in the partnership.
The schools will also receive money which will fund activities over the next three years.
A spokesman for Northumberland County Council said:"We are delighted that the middle and high schools of the Alnwick partnership have worked so closely together to achieve specialist college status for all the schools.
"The choices of curriculum specialism by the middle schools complement one another extremely well. We are confident that the young people of Alnwick will receive an even higher quality education as a result of this prestigious award."
The Duke's school stood out in music and maths, Lindisfarne and Glendale's specialist subject was technology, for Thomas Percy it was science and maths and Seahouses shone in music and ICT.
