Schools closed in heavy snow

WINTRY weather has caused treacherous conditions and closed schools across north Northumberland.
Heavy snow fell across the county during the night and has continued into this morning (Thursday) leaving the A1 with one lane of traffic each way as is the A1058 coast road, and rural roads are in a poor condition.

Northumbria Police is advising motorists to exercise extreme caution when driving during the snow.

Pedestrians are also advised to take extra care when walking on untreated paths.

The Met Office predicts blizzards and heavy drifting snow untill this afternoon.

Some schools have also been closed, these are: Branton First School; Ellingham C of E First School; Kielder Community First School; Netherton Northside First School; Otterburn First School;
Rothbury First School; Shilbottle First School; Whittingham C of E First School; Dr Thomlinson Cof E Middle School, Rothbury; Glendale Middle School; Lindisfarne Middle School.
