SINCE the Gazette launched its campaign to save the 23-year-old town tradition, Alnwick in Bloom, three weeks ago, the committee is once again blooming.
The committee now has seven new members, bringing the total up to 12. Alnwick Town Council representative, Coun Eileen Blakey, told the Gazette she has received four letters from green-fingered enthusiasts and has recruited a further two people.
The Gazette's acting editor, Paul Larkin, has also offered his support and is now a committee member.
Coun Blakey said: "We have had quite a considerable response with four letters from people in and around Alnwick so we are moving forward."
Mr Larkin added: "Alnwick in Bloom is an important tradition in the town and one that we must do our best to preserve.
"I felt it was important that the Northumberland Gazette is at the forefront of this community event and so I have pledged my full support.
"I now hope Alnwick in Bloom blossoms and goes from strength to strength."
Any other interested parties can write to Coun Blakey at Cemetery Lodge Office, South Road, Alnwick, NE66 2PH.
