YOUNG people out in Alnwick next month are to be encouraged to pee in the pot as part of a campaign to promote awareness of a sexual transmitted infection.
Revellers aged between 18 and 24 will be offered the chance to take the chlamydia test when advisers from the screening programme visit the Hairy Lemon on Narrowgate, on Thursday, September 4, from 9pm.
Michelle Stamp, chlamydia screening programme manager, said: "We want to offer as many young people as possible the opportunity to have a free confidential chlamydia test.
"It is a particularly nasty infection because it doesn't always have symptoms but it can leave you infertile.
"Chlamydia can be easily treated with a short course of antibiotics and we are making it as easy as possible for people to be tested and treated for this condition."
Chlamydia is the most common sexually-transmitted infection and is increasing among the 18-24 age group.
If left untreated, it sometimes leads to pelvic inflammatory disease and can leave both men and women infertile. It can easily be treated with a short course of antibiotics.
