A NORTH Northumberland MP was officially knighted by Queen Elizabeth II last month.
Sir Alan Beith, Liberal Democrat MP for Berwick-upon-Tweed constituency was knighted in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace, with his wife Lady Diana Beith and children at the ceremony.

After the ceremonial dubbing with the sword, Sir Alan Beith said: "It was a very special occasion for me and my family and we will treasure the memories for a long time.

"I was very pleased indeed to have had the knighthood conferred by her Majesty."
