SEVEN Northumberland quarries have landed a major biodiversity prize.
Tarmac took the Natural England-sponsored Award for Biodiversity, in recognition of its work to create biodiversity action plans at each quarry in the area, at the prestigious Sustain Awards event in London.

The Sustain Awards is a national event that recognises exceptional achievements in sustainability.

Mike Young, estates manager for Tarmac said: "We were given a Biodiversity Benchmark by the Northumberland Wildlife Trust last year for our Northumberland Biodiversity Action Plan – the first time it had been awarded for this number of sites – so this award tops it all off."

Tarmac operates seven quarries in Northumberland, including those at Belford, Howick, Harden, near Harbottle, and Lanton and Woodbridge, both near Milfield.
