THE iconic Lion Bridge in Alnwick is now closed to pedestrians while repairs are made to the flood-damaged foundations.
Piling work began on the bridge last week and due to the small risk of structural damage from the repairs and the exhaust blast from the piling hammer, it is now closed to pedestrians for their own safety.

Diving inspections are being carried out during the day to keep an eye on the foundations as works progress.

It is still hoped that the bridge, which has been closed to traffic since the end of October, will reopen before Christmas, weather permitting.
