A BOARDED-UP Alnwick shop could be re-opened this autumn.
The former Woolworths store on Bondgate Within has stood empty since December 30 when the company went into administration.

But on Tuesday, fashion retailer M&Co, also known as Mackays, picked up the keys to the store with a view to opening by aut
umn, confirming a report in the Gazette earlier this month. It will provide up to 13 new jobs.

Alongside M&Co's clothing range, it will feature a womenswear concession, which is not yet known, but will be either Jacques Vert, Windsmoor, Precis Petite or Planet.

Andrew McGeoch, head of marketing and web services at M&Co, said: "We're pleased to confirm that we will be opening a new store in Alnwick.

"M&Co's continuing success in the UK retail sector means that we are able to bring some much-needed stability to local high streets, which I'm sure the people of Alnwick will welcome. With great value fashion for all the family, we hope to become an exciting shopping destination for the town."

County councillor for Alnwick Gordon Castle said: "That store has been a major blight in the trading half of the town and we were very anxious that it was filled quickly. I hope they get in quickly and start trading. It looks bad and it hasn't helped the town centre.
We are all looking forward to seeing it as a viable business."
