Man died in organised boat race in Northumberland

A MAN has died and a teenager remains critical after an accident on an organised boat race on Kielder Water on Sunday afternoon.
The 52-year-old man, who has not yet been named, and a 17-year-old girl, got into difficulty when their boat capsized near to Tower Knowe at Falstone at 3.10pm.

Police and the air ambulance were called to the scene and the pair were brought to the shore.

Emergency CPR was carried out on both and they were airlifted to Newcastle General Hospital.

The man was pronounced dead at hospital and the teenager is in a critical condition.

The Marine Accident INvestigation Branch has been informed and is at the scene carrying out an investigation to assist Northumbria Police with their investigation.
