A MAN is in a critical condition after a two vehicle smash on the A1 today (Friday, July 3).
The collision - between a heavy goods vehicle and a BMW - happened north of Alnwick at North Charlton at around 3.15pm.
The driver of the BMW has been detained in Wansbeck General Hospital.
The A1 was closed in both directions for around three hours and traffic diversions were put in place.
An appeal for witnesses has been launched. People should contact Alnwick Motor Patrols on 08456 043 043 ext 61373. The officer in charge is PC 8675 Blythe.
