A LITTER of kittens were rescued after being abandoned in Rothbury.
Eight kittens and a black bin bag were found lying next to the River Coquet on Monday night.
Wyn Kelly, co-ordinator from the Coquetdale Cat Protection and Rescue Group, was called to the scene but when she got there one of them had died. The others, believed to be only a day old, were covered in fly eggs.
She believes the kittens were to be dumped in the river but the owner had a change of heart and left them by the river bank instead.
