A NORTH Northumberland first school has received the highest grade at inspection.
Hipsburn First School was graded as outstanding in a recent Ofsted inspection.
In a letter to pupils about the inspection Derek Sleightholme, lead inspector, said: "I inspect many primary schools and yours is one of the best I have visited.
"You attend an outstanding school."
He also said that 'teaching leadership and governance are outstanding' at the school and pupils make excellent progress during their time there, with above average achievements in most assessments.
Of the pupils he added: "Behaviour is outstanding. Pupils show very positive attitudes to learning and love school activities.
Pupils know the staff care for them and they feel very secure at school."
Dot Charlton, headteacher at the school, said: "We are delighted that Ofsted has recognised our efforts to become a learning, caring community."
The school received grade one in all areas except the effectiveness of the early years foundation stage which got a grade two.
The report highlights the pupils' personal development and well-being and states that their school-life and voice in the community prepares them well for the future.
