ANGER is mounting over controversial plans to build new houses in Seahouses.
An application has been submitted to Northumberland County Council to erect two, two-storey properties on land to the rear of St Aidans.

Residents have objected to the scheme for a number of reasons, including intrusion of privacy, potential sewerage problems and traffic issues.

Members of North Sunderland Parish Council voiced their concerns about the plans and unanimously agreed the bid should be rejected.

Coun Pauline Orrin said: "Seahouses is not a town, it is a village. What they are trying to do is build houses on every single bit of greenery they can. It is about time people who live in these villages say we have had enough. It is about time we stood up and said enough is enough. The residents have to be listened to."

Coun Bill Weeks added: "We may have reached a watershed in that any expansion in residential size could materially alter the essential character of this area of outstanding natural beauty and create an unstoppable rural sprawl."
