A FORMER lifeboat house could be turned into a heritage centre for the local community, it has been announced.
Plans are about to be put before Alnmouth Parish Council in the next few days to create the facility, located in the largest of the two Grade II listed buildings on Alnmouth Links.

It follows recent feasibility study commissioned by the parish council and funded by the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Alan Tilmouth, who is a committee member of the Alnmouth Burgage Holders, said: "The plans will create a heritage centre in a unique location and it is hoped will become a day out destination for tourists and visitors, as well as an educational resource for local Northumberland schools.

"If the initial proposal is welcomed by Alnmouth Parish Council it is hoped to kick start the project immediately with the aim of renovation work commencing in 2009.

"It is planned that a Charitable Trust will be established to manage the Heritage Centre with representation from Alnmouth Parish Council, AONB, Alnmouth Burgage Holders and community representatives."
