GUNS and a cocktail of drugs have been seized from a property in a north Northum-berland village.
Police swooped on the house, in Middle Road, Shilbottle, last Friday using a search warrant under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1971.

A replica handgun and a BB gun were among the haul while two large bars of cannabis were discovered.

Some drugs were also found stuffed into small sealable bags, while a further 100 empty bags, with a silhouette of a naked woman printed on them, were also taken.

A cannabis plant was found in a grinder and a catalogue of pills and what are thought to be diazepam tablets were seized in the raid.

The street value of the drugs is unknown and the stash is being analysed.

A mobile phone was also confiscated and a Stihl saw was found at the property. Police are trying to trace the owner of the power tool.

A suspect was arrested at the scene and has been put on police bail while further enquiries are being carried out.

Police targeted the house on the back of intelligence and information received from the public.

Alnwick Neighbourhood Sergeant Neville Wharrier said: "People see drugs as a menace in the community.

"If we do get intelligence of a premises where people are supplying or using drugs we will be knocking on their doors.

"We do act on intelligence."

Alnwick inspector Sue Peart also urged people to work with police to help crack down on crime.

She said: "If the public share information with us and tell us about these things we will act. Together we can make a massive impact on crime and disorder in this area."

The discovery has shocked the community. Elisabeth Haddow, district councillor for Shilbottle, said: "It has come as a big surprise to me. We thought that any drugs problem in Shilbottle had been cleared up. And I didn't know of any gun problem. I am quite shocked."

But she added: "I am pleased that the police have acted very quickly in eradicating the problem.

"They have nipped it in the bud and given out the message to others that drug and gun culture will not be tolerated."

Anyone with information is urged to call the Crimestoppers number 0800 555 111 or contact the Alnwick Neighbourhood team directly on 08456 043043 ext 61381.
