GREEN-fingered Tommy Tait is top of the plots, after his garden was judged to be among the best of its kind across the whole of the North East.
Mr Tait, who is a tenant of Two Castles Housing Association at Archbold Cottages in Wooler, came joint runner-up in the Best Small Garden section in an area stretching from the Scottish Border to Darlington.
And as well as tending to his own patch, the 82-year-old even made sure that his neighbours' gardens were maintained to the same high standard.
Dave Armstrong, housing services director at Two Castles Housing Association, said: "This annual competition is in its second year and has proven to be popular with residents.
"I would like to congratulate Mr Tait, as there was a very high standard of entries this year, which is testament to the commitment and hard work of everyone involved who have all dug, sown, pruned and nurtured their gardens in preparation for the competition, despite this year's wet weather.
"It is great to see residents like Mr Tait taking so much pleasure in improving their outdoor environment for both themselves and their neighbours."
As a prize, Mr Tait received a gift voucher and certificate from the chairman of the association in recognition of his efforts.
