NEW council offices are set to be built on the hallowed turf at Alnwick's football ground, following a decision by planners.
The scheme, which will cover around two thirds of St James' Park, will include a one and two-storey building which will house the new area functions of the recently-created unitary authority.

Within the 2,059-sq-m building will be general office space, flexible conferencing facilities and a cafe.

A car park would also be built on the eastern part of the site, comprising 70 spaces with access taken from Willowburn Avenue.

But a second application, for 33 homes on the remaining part of the site, has been deferred for further consideration.

A condition of the approval is that a satisfactory alternative pitch is found for Alnwick Town Football Club.
