A DOG was rescued by firefighters after jumping 25ft into the River Coquet today (Monday).
Winnie, a two-and-a-half year old black flat coated retriever was walking along Warkworth bridge when she jumped into the river.

She fell onto rocks managing to scramble on to a grassy island in the middle of the river.

Fire crews from Amble and Morpeth were called to the incident at 9am this morning.

After enlisting help of a resident with a boat, firefighters were able to get to Winnie.

She was kept warm until the vet arrived, when she was assessed and taken to the river bank by boat to receive treatment.

Early indications showed that Winnie had a broken front paw, bumps and bruises and a possible broken pelvis.

She was taken to the vets for further treatment.
