THIEVES who stole charity boxes have been described as 'the lowest of the low' by a volunteer collector.
Audrey Jones, who organises collections for the Great North Air Ambulance Service in the Amble and Warkworth area, hit out after two tins were taken earlier this week.

The first vanished from the Black Bull pub in Warkworth and the second went missing from Amble Post Office.

"There would have been up to £80 between both boxes," said Mrs Jones, of Amble. "Whoever did this is the lowest of the low.

"I would urge anyone with a charity box in their possession to be extremely careful when leaving it out in public."
