OYEZ! Oyez! The line-up for a top town crier competition has been confirmed.
Twenty-three contestants have been summoned to Alnwick to provide the vocal entertainment at the Town Crier British Championships 2008 on Saturday, July 5.
And the organisers have managed to secure the services of three new criers.
Don Evans, Cyril Richardson and Brenda Willison have all agreed to take up the challenge.
It is the first time the championships have been held this far north but the competition has attracted criers from across England.
Anne Shilton, project development officer with organisers Alnwick Community Development Trust, said: "Everything is going well.
"We are happy with the mix of criers we have. It's really good.
"The furthest criers we have are from Bristol and Swindon but we also have them from Lincoln, Chester, Yorkshire and Preston."
The championships will take place under the beautiful backdrop of the market place and it promises to be a spectacle to shout about with an orgy of colour, noise and entertainment.
All 23 contestants will be in full costume and more than 10 have confirmed that they will be accompanied by escorts.
There are also a number of crier couples pitting their vocal talents against one another while there will be a crier who goes by the motto "once heard, never forgotten."
Six judges have also been confirmed while there will be a costume judge and a secret judge for the Best Ambassador.
Anne added: "We are really proud to host the event and it will be great for the town."
