A MOTORCYCLE crash in rural north Northumberland has prompted calls for action to make the area safer for drivers.
A biker was airlifted to Wansbeck Hospital on Bank Holiday Monday after crashing into a fence at Grasslees, near Elsdon.
The man was left with a broken arm following the incident, which is the sixth of its kind at the spot in two years.
Chris Armstrong, who farms at Graslees, said: "Something needs to de done. This is the sixth motorcyclist through the fence in two years.
"We have done all we can to try and alert people that there is a problem. We replaced the fence which has had some hammering and had a new fence put up a fortnight ago."
The crash happened at the top of the hill on the B6341 from Rothbury to Elsdon.
The hill has a blind summit and it is here where accidents have happened in the past.
Mr Armstrong said he had spoken to Northumberland County Council about marking the road to alert drivers and motorcyclists about the problem.
He added: "Of the six that have been through, nobody has been killed but that day will happen and will come."
A county council spokesman said: "If we get a request for signage in a particular area, we always look into each individual case to see what options are available.
"We will be investigating this particular stretch of road as we are aware that a large number of motorcyclists use it and we will be looking to see what road safety measures may be appropriate."
