CAMPAIGNERS fighting to have the A1 between Morpeth and the Scottish Border completely dualled say support is growing in every quarter to get the job done.
Since its inaugural meeting on October 14 in Berwick, A1 Campaign Group founding member Anne-Marie Trevelyan has been contacted by a number of groups about how they can help.
Anne-Marie said: "Initial meetings with the Federation of Small Businesses
and the Institute of Civil Engineers have proved very productive.
"Each of these organisations is offering technical and practical support for the campaign.
"They are going to help gather more detailed information and views from their members on just how much the region needs this road dualled from Morpeth into Scotland."
And she added: "The North East Chamber of Commerce is increasing its lobbying for this issue to move up the political agenda too.
"I believe we are on the road – long though it will no doubt be – to success."
Anne-Marie says she has also been amazed by the support coming through on a popular social networking website, from younger supporters who are keen to be heard.
So far almost 100 users have joined the Dual the A1 Facebook Campaign.
The next meeting of the campaign group is tomorrow at 7pm in the Green Room of Berwick Parish Church.
