FLOODS of applications have been received for food and drink stalls at this year's Alnwick Food Festival.
Organised by the Alnwick Lions and following on from the success of the last three food festivals, this year's promises to be bigger and better while still keeping the same ethos of locally produced and sourced food.
And there will be some excitin
g newcomers to the festival, including Castello Food Co, a specialist retailer selling fine Italian food and wine, and the Lamb Man, from East Wingates Farm, Longhorsley where Jimmy Bell rears, butchers and sells his own traditional Northumbrian hill lamb.
Other new stall-holders this year include Delicious Catering, Green Brae, The Olive Store and Spicymonkey.
This year also sees special guest The Chilli Man, an entertainer and chilli fanatic.
Chilli Rich is a member of the Little Green Men who produce and specialise in all things chilli.
Don Watson, chairman of the Alnwick Food Festival committee, said: "We are delighted with the progress so far with this year's food festival.
"We are working closely with Local Living who run the market to make it bigger and better than ever before.
"We are hoping to fill Bondgate Within with market stalls and activities throughout the weekend."
He added: "We are delighted that The Alnwick Garden has taken on the role of the Children's Food Festival, for the first time this year."
Visitors will have the chance to sample foods, see cookery demonstrations and talks, take part in food trails and other exciting offers and surprises throughout the weekend.
Running alongside the food festival will be the Children's Food Festival at the garden, to introduce and educate children on local food and healthy eating.
The festival takes place on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, coinciding with the start of British Food Fortnight, which was set up in 2002 after the foot and mouth crisis.
