Things will be getting festive at Whitley Bay’s famous St Mary’s Lighthouse from this weekend.

Santa will be returning to the tidal island with a special new grotto.

As well as the festive display, the gift shop will be selling a variety of hot drinks and Christmas treats.

Due to the demand last year, organisers will be selling allocated time slots for a chance to meet Father Christmas in the grotto.

Pre-booking is essential on (0191) 200 8650.

Tickets will cost £7 per child and this includes a special gift.

The event runs on Saturday, December 12, and Sunday, December 13.

Times to visit vary throughout the day and visitors must check the tide times before attending the grotto.
