Two Gazette readers contacted us following the publication of this photo of the Louvre Café two weeks ago.

Our MP Sir Alan Beith told us that the café was the Liberals’ headquarters for the 1973 by-election when he was first elected and so the picture must pre-date 1973.

Dougie Hedley, from Alnwick, wrote to say that a number of visual clues lead him to date it to the late 1950s or possibly the early 1960s.
