Community theatre is the name of the game over the next few days as amateur performers take to the stage in two north Northumberland villages.

A mixture of dancing, singing, comedy and more is on the menu in Alnmouth’s annual variety show, which this year is called Almost Anything Goes.

Meanwhile, Wooler Community Panto Group is gearing up to present Across The Pond.

Around 30 people are involved in Alnmouth’s show, from players and musicians to the crew.

The production features a series of sketches, which includes the appearance of an outside guest artist – which this year is Alnwick town and county councillor Gordon Castle, who will be singing some Tyneside songs. The event is taking place at the village’s Hindmarsh Hall tonight, tomorrow and Saturday, starting at 7.30pm, and raises money for the venue.

Tickets, which include a Northumbrian buffet, are £8 and are available from the box office on 01665 830784.

However, there are only tickets left for tonight’s show.

Wooler Community Panto Group will be taking to the stage at the village’s Glendale Middle School.

Following on from last year’s successful production of The Pied Piper of Hamelin, Across The Pond features classic song and dance routines with the flavours of both the UK and the USA.

The group’s members have spent the winter months in rehearsal and are sure to put on a performance to remember.

With more than a few surprises sprinkled in among the acts, anticipation is high and tickets are selling fast.

Three performances are scheduled.

The first is tomorrow, at 7pm, followed by a 2pm showing on Saturday.

The curtain will come down on the production later that day with a show at 7pm.

Tickets are priced £5 for adults and £3 for 4-16-year-olds.

They are available from Farm to Freeze on South Road, Mike Hope’s Garage and Brand’s Newsagents.

Refreshments and ice-cream will be available during the interval.

There will also be a raffle held at each performance.

Funds raised over the course of the two days will be donated to local causes and charities.
