Concert in honour of our brave troops

A special Remembrance Day concert is being held later this month, in aid of the charity Help for Heroes.

Alnwick and District Choral Society is staging the fund-raising show, which will also honour Elizabeth, Duchess of Northumberland, who passed away in September, aged 90.

She was the group’s president for 60 years and was a big Society supporter.

The concert will be conducted by Peter Brown, who has composed new material for the showcase, while Alan Gidney will be on the organ and Glen Hogg will play the trumpet.

There will also be poems from the First World War and choir anthems.

Joyce Clayton, from the Society, said: “This will be a very special Remembrance Day concert and will include music and readings remembering the dead of the two World Wars and recognising the debt owed to fighting men through generations.

“The performance will also include a version of the No. 1 best seller Wherever You Are as performed by Gareth Malone’s Military Wives choir exactly a year ago at the Remembrance day concert at the Royal Albert Hall. There will also be music written specially for the occasion by our music director, Peter Brown.”

The concert takes place on Sunday, November 11, at St Paul’s Church, Alnwick, starting at 7.30pm. Admission, £9 (£8 conc), is by programme at the door, and proceeds go to Help for Heroes.
