These two photos, from the Gazette 10 years ago, show how consistent north Northumberland’s summer calendar has been over the past decade, with two events from the first weekend in August that both took place at the same time this year.

The top photo features an athletic member of Ukranian group Svitanok at Alnwick International Music Festival in August 2004. The group will be fondly remembered by townsfolk because they penned and sang a song called Alnwick: Festival Town.

The show championship at Powburn Show in August 2004 went to Davy Baxter, from Angryhaugh, with his Scotch blackface ewe lamb.
