Thank you Anneka Rice! That’s the view of many publicans and restaurant owners in the area as the tourist season reaches its peak.

The popular Treasure Hunt programme looks to have drawn a number of visitors into the area following its showing back in April this year. District council tourist development officer Marion Oates said this week: “An amazing number of people have said they saw Alnwick on television, through Treasure Hunt.” She added that inquiry rates were up 500 per cent and noted that this year seemed certain to be a better one than the last for tourism, although it was still ‘early days’.

The programme pin-pointed many attractive areas and the hoteliers, publicans and restaurant owners look to be reaping the benefits, as have both Alnwick and Warkworth castles.
