I READ with interest your article about the proposed takeaway plan on Bondgate Without. In particular, I was amazed at the town council's observation that the area is a 'residential' area.
While I have no doubt people live in the vicinity, surely they choose to live there because they want to be close to the town centre and the amenities and convenience this gives. At worse, the area is a 'secondary retail' area and one could argue that since the opening of The Garden, this status is augmented as this part of Alnwick has been rejuvenated.
People who live in town centres should expect constant change and should be happy that business owners are prepared to invest for their convenience. Without this investment we will just be left with empty shops and run down buildings. This in turn can give an impression that no one cares and can facilitate the very anti-social behaviour that is suggested in this article. I, for one, applaud this application.
