HUNDREDS of parents and children attended a schools football tournament hosted at St Michael's School, Alnwick, on Saturday.
The inaugural event, held in aid of school funds, was organised and run by coaching organisation Trident Soccer and comprised 16 teams from the Alnwick, Amble, Acklington, Broomhill, Hipsburn, Morpeth, Rock and Wooler areas, according to FA coach and Newcastle United scout Ryan Jobson.

"This was a fantastic tournament involving some of the best local talent within their respective age groups," he said. "The quality of the matches was outstanding and the event was a huge success thanks to the support of children, parents and St Michael's School."

The semi-finals were contested between FC Morpeth, St Michael's Clayport Giants, Amble First School Galaxy and Alnwick South School, resulting in an all-Alnwick final.

The pulsating match finale ended in a total action no-score draw, followed by golden goal extra-time, leading to a nail-biting penalty shoot-out.

The match was eventually resolved through sudden-death penalties resulting in Alnwick South taking the tournament title 12-11.

St Michael's headteacher Sally Lamb was delighted to host the successful tournament and thanked everyone for their support.

"We've raised hundreds of pounds in aid of school funds and the boys and girls involved have had an incredible day," she said. "I'd like to thank Ryan and Shaun Jobson and the Trident team for organising and running the tournament as well as all the parents, children and staff for their immense support."
