Linden land the league prize
AFTER leading the way for most of the season Linden Hall finally crossed the finishing line to win the league matchplay championship for the first time since joining the league five years ago.

They went into their final game, at home to Percy Wood
, with a slender two-point advantage over rivals Berwick A, who were away to Magdalene Fields B.

At that stage they needed to win 11-1 to be sure of the title. As it turned out they won 12-0 and with Berwick dropping three points at The Fields it gave them a five-point overall victory.

Bamburgh, last season's champions, finished a modest third, one point ahead of Magdalene Fields A, with Warkworth and Alnwick joint fifth just ahead of Dunstanburgh.

The matchplay league appears to be as popular as ever and with some talented juniors making their presence felt the future looks bright.
The season will be remembered for its new title holders and the fact that barely one game was postponed despite the dismal summer weather.
